A student-led effort towards building a better tomorrow, project ‘Joybox’, is an initiative that involves making quality food available to vulnerable populations, while simultaneously improving the strength of local production systems.

A group of passionate, young leaders, keen on making the world a better place, we, the students of Grade 10, decided to fuel our goal to serve the community by developing and implementing a team project as a part of the Global Social Leaders’ Competition. The opportunity which presented itself, was an ideal medium of showcasing our team-building and social service skills, while allowing us to focus on achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

After putting a lot of thought and time into designing our initiative, we finally fixed our target and hope to make a difference in society through our community service project, “Project Joybox”.

A student-led effort towards building a better tomorrow, project ‘Joybox’, is an initiative that involves making quality food available to vulnerable populations, while simultaneously improving the strength of local production systems. Through this project, we truly hope to earn the smiles of hundreds of hungry families and contribute towards the UN’s Sustainable development goal of ‘Zero Hunger by 2030’.

Therefore, in order to achieve our target, we organised a fun-filled Christmas-themed fundraiser, ‘Xmas Xcitement’ which promised a range of exciting activities for students from primary to secondary.

The Winter Carnival was a huge success with an overwhelming response from the primary, secondary sections and the teaching faculty. We achieved our target successfully with over 11k funds raised. The proceeds collected from our Christmas Fundraiser, will be given for charitable causes and for the execution of our aforementioned project. All of the funds collected will be used for the purchase of disposable food boxes, which will be provided to volunteers who will prepare 2-3 meals each week, allowing for active involvement of the community. The distribution of these boxes will thus help us achieve our goal of Zero Hunger by 2030!

A big thank you to all the students and teachers who participated in ‘Xmas Xcitement’ and helped us achieve our goal!

We are grateful for your support and contribution towards Project Joybox, an initiative we hope will eradicate hunger in the marginalised groups of our society!

Together, we can earn the smiles of every hungry child as access to food becomes widespread and not just a privilege!
