What is new at DYPIS

This academic year sees several new initiatives in the domain of co-curricular activities @ DYPIS

The DYPIS Virtual Career Fair 2020

The DYPIS Career Fair was a grand success. It had 100+ attendees that included parents and students. The Fair began with our ex-students Sofia Samee and Saumya Mehta who gave us an insight of their student life at the University. They were unanimous in saying that the IB Diploma Programme helped them excel at the University and made it easy for them to cope up with life. The first half of the day ended with panel discussions and break-out sessions. The second half of the day saw the University Fair that included many Universities from different countries. Each university presented the undergraduate courses offered, admission processes and why their country was a good study destination. The day ended with a question and answer session between the students and the university representatives.

The First Ever DYPIS Virtual Literary Week 2020

Story-telling is the most powerful tool to teach and inspire young and adults alike. The theme for this years' Literary Week was 'Story of our Lives'. Students immersed themselves in various thought-provoking debates, stimulating discussions, understanding and appreciating global cultures, interacting with talented authors. The 2020 Literary Week came jam packed with flavours of critical thinking, analysis, reflection, creativity, research, so on and so forth. DYPIS students participated in activities and competitions across four languages (English, Hindi, French and Spanish) such as creating tongue twisters, digital collages of their favourite authors, writing poems, tales, movie climaxes to name a few. Our students were also a part of an interactive session with authors Mrs. Katie Bagli and Ms. Avan Jesia who shared their experiences as authors and why they love reading and writing.

DYMUN (Model United Nations)

DYPMUN 2020 was the most thrilling experience. From fruitful debates to heated arguments, every moment was worth remembering. Each committee successfully passed a resolution. Day 1 began with the opening ceremony, where the secretary generals declared the MUN open, followed by an insightful speech from Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil. On this day all committees delved deeper into their agendas, debating and discussing the various issues in the world. In addition, the crisis for every committee was also introduced, breaking any monotony. Blocs and allies were formed and delegates started working on their draft resolutions in their respective committees. This year at DYPMUN 2020 we also had a teacher’s committee. The event ended with the night crisis committee where the delegates rewrote history, circling around events that took place during the World War 2.

Investiture Ceremony

DYPIS held their first virtual investiture ceremony to swear in the newly elected student body for the academic year 2020 – 2021. The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body. They help share student ideas, interests and concerns with the school wide community. AT DYPIS, we provide our young students ample of opportunities to take up new responsibilities on their shoulders, leaving a strong impact on the masses. We congratulate all our young budding leaders and wish them all the best for the upcoming year. It was a delightful experience for the parents too.

Zoomed in with a Guest Lecture

Collaboration with members outside the learning community is a key to providing students with an authentic learning experience and helping them make connections from their learning to the real world. DYPIS invites some of the greatest thinkers to engage with students in a close setting where they can ask questions, spark debates, and find inspiration for the future. A guest lecturer was invited to address the queries of our young learners. She gave us a virtual tour of the various kinds of layouts in designing interiors. She explained how demand and supply affects their business. The kids had a wonderful experience and truly aroused more burning questions amongst the Grade 4 learners. Such sessions inspire our students to take on new challenges and new career paths.

Learners work on their ATL Skills

Developing approaches to learning skills become more important than ever through the schooling process. Learners Approaches to learning (ATL) are an integral part of an IB education and complement the learner profile, knowledge, conceptual understanding and inquiry. These skills are grounded in the belief that learning how to learn is fundamental to a student’s education. The goal of ATL is to enable students to apply a range of ATL skills in different learning situations. To foster and support the development of these skills the students were presented with a choice board of 5 tasks from which they had to select anyone. They used different skills while trying to complete the task whether thinking on how they could create a musical instrument out of waste or managing themselves while finding the best way to organize the book shelf.
